of Scotland (c.1045–93) A princess of the Anglo-Saxon royal house (great granddaughter of *Ethelred the Unready). She and her family fled from the Normans in 1067 to the Scottish court, where in about 1070 she married the king, *Malcolm III. She was known both for her culture and for her piety; St Margaret's Chapel in *Edinburgh Castle is named after her. She was canonized in 1250. Her feast day in Scotland is November 16, the anniversary of her death, but it is held elsewhere on June 10.
