Lucky Jim
|
|
(1954) First novel by Kingsley *Amis, chronicling the mishaps of Jim Dixon, a young English lecturer in a provincial university (Amis was then teaching English at Swansea). Its brilliant scenes of farce ensured the novel's success, while Jim's irreverence and deflation of pomposity caused both him and his creator to be classed as *angry young men.
