Loyalists
|
|
Those Protestants in *Northern Ireland whose politics are shaped by loyalty to the British crown. They have been known by this name since the beginning of the *Unionist cause in the late 19C. In recent decades the term has been tainted by an association with *terrorism, since Protestant groups perpetrating sectarian violence are now usually described as 'loyalist paramilitary' organizations.
