Lord President of the Council
|
|
The cabinet minister responsible for the *privy council, presiding at its rare formal meetings. The modern history of the office has been similar to that of the *lord privy seal; it was used in the mid-20C to bring into the cabinet a minister charged with a new and specific task, but in recent years it has gone to either the *leader of the House of Commons or the leader of the House of Lords.
