Little Lord Fauntleroy
|
|
(1886) Children's novel by Frances Hodgson *Burnett about a young American boy, with long golden curls and in a velvet knickerbocker suit, who becomes Lord Fauntleroy when he is discovered to be the heir to an English earl. He travels to his English castle, has much trouble with the cantankerous old nobleman and is almost displaced by a young impostor. The huge success of the book caused unfortunate boys on both sides of the Atlantic to be forced into suits of velvet and lace.
