Lanhydrock House

(48km/30m W of Plymouth) A house partly of the 17C (including a detached gatehouse and a 35m/116ft gallery with a barrel-vaulted plaster ceiling depicting Old Testament scenes) and partly the result of grandiose rebuilding in the 19C. The 38 clipped yews standing sentinel in front of the house were planted in 1857 and came from *Florence Court. The house is known for its extensive shrub and woodland gardens.
