The Lady of the Lake
|
|
(1810) Narrative poem by Walter *Scott about frustrated love and mistaken identities among warring chieftains in 16C Scotland, in the same vein as his earlier *Lay of the Last Minstrel. It was even more successful, causing such a rush of tourists to the lake in question (Loch Katrine) that a new hotel had to be built. The Lady of the Lake in *Morte d'Arthur is a shadowy figure who gives *Excalibur to Arthur.
