The last great enterprise of William *Morris. In 1890 he installed presses near Kelmscott House in Hammersmith and began designing books which were intended to rival the high standards of medieval manuscripts and early printing. Fifty-three titles were published, all in limited editions on handmade paper and with expensive bindings. The most successful was the last, the Kelmscott Chaucer (1896), with woodcuts by *Burne-Jones.
