Hoxne Treasure
|
|
The largest hoard of Roman gold and silver as yet unearthed in Britain. It was found in November 1992, at Hoxne in Suffolk, by someone using a metal detector to search for tools which had fallen off a tractor. Dating from a little after 400 AD, the treasure included about 1000 gold and 5000 silver coins, approximately 100 silver spoons (many with the *chi-rho emblem of the early *Christians) and several gold bracelets and chains.
