ICI
|
|
(Imperial Chemical Industries) Company formed in 1926 by the merger of Britain's four largest chemical concerns at that time, with the express purpose of creating a group of major international status – a role which ICI has successfully maintained, though sometimes with the reputation of a slumbering giant. The founding partners in 1926 were Brunner Mond, manufacturers of alkali; United Alkali, in the same field; Nobel Industries, an explosives company set up in 1870 by Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite; and British Dyestuffs.
