The name of three rivers in Britain. The longest (about 140km/87m) rises in the Cairngorm mountains and flows east past Braemar and Balmoral to enter the North Sea at Aberdeen. Another, in Dumfries and Galloway, flows south for some 80km/50m to enter the Solway Firth at Kircudbright. The third (113km/70m) rises in Wales, flows north for some way as the border between Wales and England, passes round Chester and then is confined to an artificial channel for its final passage to its estuary and the Irish Sea.
