Disputes in the 1970s between Britain and Iceland, and between the fishing fleets of the two nations, over cod in the north Atlantic. It was eventually agreed, in 1976, that an average of 24 British trawlers a day would be allowed to fish within the 200-mile zone of coastal water claimed by Iceland.
