The History of Mr Polly
|
|
(1910) Novel by H.G. *Wells about Alfred Polly, a fat draper's assistant turned unsuccessful shopkeeper, who escapes from his drab existence after a failed suicide attempt has resulted in his burning down his own shop. He has always been a dreamer and he now finds a new life in an idealized rural England, helping the landlady (as plump as himself) in a country pub, the Potwell Inn.
