Heveningham Hall

(37km/23m NE of Ipswich) House built 1778–84 with a *Palladian exterior by Robert Taylor (1714-88) and with interiors by James *Wyatt in his own version of the *Adam style. The most famous room is the hall, with its barrel ceiling interrupted by fan-faulted alcoves; the pattern is echoed below in the marble floor. The park was laid out in 1780 by Capability *Brown.
