Hereford
|
|
Breed developed by local farmers in the 18C from the indigenous cattle of the Herefordshire region, with an emphasis on good beef production. Herefords were imported to the USA in the early 19C and are now widespread throughout the world. The breed had its own herdbook from 1846. Of various colours listed at that time, only the characteristic red with a white face survives today.
