The Herald
|
|
Glasgow's daily newspaper, one of the oldest in Britain (only the *Belfast News Letter and the *Press and Journal have earlier origins). It was founded in 1783 as the Glasgow Advertiser; in 1802 the name was changed to The Glasgow Herald, which it remained until 1992. Glasgow was then dropped from the title because of an ambiguity in the previous masthead statement, 'The Glasgow Herald – Scotland's Newspaper'. The Herald's great rival in this broader claim is the Edinburgh-based *Scotsman.
