(London EC1) Charity providing aid and support internationally to the old, particularly in relation to problems of poverty and isolation. As the Help the Aged Refugees Appeal, it was set up in 1961 by Cecil Jackson-Cole (1901–79), a businessman who had also been a leading member of the group launching *Oxfam in 1942.
