Hart's Rules

The standard set of conventions used by printers and publishers of books in English. Horace Hart (1841–1916) was a printer who began compiling his own set of rules in 1864. From 1883 he was in charge of the *Oxford University Press, where his book was privately printed in 1893 as Rules for Compositors and Readers. It was first published in 1904.
