Harrier
|
|
The Harrier jump jet, introduced in the RAF in 1969, was the first plane capable of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL); it therefore won a place in many of the world's air forces. The first model, the GR1, was manufactured by Hawker Siddeley; subsequent versions have been made by British Aerospace. The RAF in recent years has been equipped with the GR3, and the Fleet Air Arm uses the Sea Harrier on aircraft carriers.
