Hansard
|
|
The colloquial name for the Official Report of debates in parliament. Verbatim accounts of speeches are published in daily and weekly editions. The name derives from Luke Hansard (printer to the House of Commons 1774–1828), whose son Thomas acquired in 1810 the Parliamentary Debates which had been started by *Cobbett. The reports did not become verbatim until 1909.
