Family of cabinet-makers, based in Lancaster, who provided elegant well-made furniture in the *Georgian and *Regency periods and who were the first English firm to stamp their name on some of their pieces (from the 1760s). Robert Gillow (1703–73) established the business, which was extended into London under his sons, Richard and Robert.
