Guy's Hospital

|
(London SE1) The founder, Thomas Guy (c.1645–1724), was a successful publisher and printer; the building of the hospital began shortly before his death. In the early 19C the physicians at Guy's included an exceptional trio, each remembered by diseases named after them. Richard Bright (1789–1858) pioneered diagnostic methods for disorders of the kidney; Thomas Addison (1793–1860) identified the malfunction of the adrenal glands; and Thomas Hodgkin (1798–1866) used the methods of pathology to discover a disorder of the lymph nodes and the spleen.
