Great Ormond Street

(London WC1) Street which contains the Hospital for Sick Children, commonly referred to as the Great Ormond Street Hospital. When founded in 1852 by Dr Charles West (1816–98), it was the first children's hospital in Britain. It received a major source of income in 1929 when J.M. Barrie gave the copyright in *Peter Pan (normally the term of copyright would have ended in 1988, but it was extended by act of parliament). The main building dates from 1938, with a major extension due to open in 1994.
