Dryburgh Abbey
|
|
(64km/40m SE of Edinburgh) Founded in the 12C, in a lovely setting by the river Tweed, for Premonstratensian canons (from Prémontré in northern France). In the ruins of the abbey church lie the graves of Walter *Scott and Earl *Haig. The other monastic buildings are relatively well preserved, giving an unusually clear idea of how the monks lived.
