Fyvie Castle

(56km/35m NW of Aberdeen) Castle continuously added to from the 13C to 19C and known in particular for its five tall towers, each named after one of the families who have owned Fyvie. They are, in sequence, the Preston, Meldrum, Seton, Gordon and Leith towers (only the last two were actually built by the family in question). The house contains a famous 17C 'wheel' staircase, rising five floors with stone steps 3m/10ft wide.
