(BBC 1946–87) Radio programme which during five decades was a Sunday teatime favourite for many, with the presenter visiting a different place in Britain each week and talking to the locals (who choose a piece of music) about their community and its history. There were only four presenters during the entire period – Stewart MacPherson (1946–50), Richard Dimbleby (1950–5), Franklin Engelmann (1955–72) and Brian Johnston (1972–87).
