Fawlty Towers
|
|
(BBC 1975–9) Television comedy series which has lodged in the nation's collective memory so securely that it is hard to believe there were only 13 half-hour programmes (six in 1975, seven in 1979). The programmes were written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, who were married at the time. Cleese played Basil Fawlty, the frantic owner of the hotel in which the sketches were set; Prunella *Scales was his stern wife, Sybil; Connie Booth was the receptionist; and the spectacularly incompetent Spanish waiter, Manuel, was performed by Andrew Sachs.
