Tommy Farr
|
|
(1913–86) Welsh boxer who became British and Commonwealth champion when he beat Ben Foord in the Harringay Arena in March 1937. In June of that year Joe Louis knocked out James Braddock to become world champion, and in August Farr was his first challenger for the title. He astonished everyone by losing narrowly on points; the next seven fighters rash enough to challenge the Brown Bomber were all knocked out. Farr relinquished his titles and stayed in the United States to capitalize on his sudden fame.
