|
(c1562–1626) Composer, lute-player and singer who spent much of his life in courts on the continent before entering the service of James I in 1612. His fame now derives from his solo compositions for lute, from his songs (of which Fine Knacks for Ladies is one of the best known), and from his instrumental pieces for viols and lute in the collection published as Lachrimae (1604).
