Entente Cordiale
|
|
('friendly understanding' in French) The name commonly given to an agreement between France and Britain in 1904. It resolved colonial antagonism between the two countries in various parts of the world, in particular giving a free hand to France in *Morocco and to Britain in *Egypt. It also brought them into a tacit alliance against German interests, a pact which held through the next decade and into World War I.
