(1926–55) The last woman to be hanged in Britain. She was sentenced to death for the basic crime passionel, the murder of a lover who was unfaithful to her. Her story has been the subject of two feature films – Yield to the Night (1956), filmed immediately after her execution with Diana Dors in the central role, and Dance with a Stranger (1985).
