Electoral Reform Society
|
|
Pressure group formed in 1884 to campaign for change in the British electoral system – from first-past-the-post to a specific form of *proportional representation or PR (the single transferable vote in multi-member constituencies). It was not until the 1980s that the society found a wide measure of public support for PR, but it had meanwhile made itself an indispensable advisory body for any group or organization in Britain needing to count and record votes in an orderly fashion.
