Eagle
|
|
Boy's comic founded in 1950 by Marcus Morris, a clergyman. Its ulterior motive was revealed by the presence of St Paul, whose journeys at first occupied the back page, but it sold on the appeal of *Dan Dare and to a lesser extent on the humorous adventures of the incompetent Harris Tweed, Extra Special Agent (a reference to the contemporary character *Dick Barton). In the early years *PC 49 was also a regular. Eagle lasted until 1969 and was revived in a different format in 1982.
