Dulwich Picture Gallery
|
|
(London SE21) Britain's oldest public art gallery, which opened in 1814 in a building designed by *Soane to accommodate a bequest of 371 paintings to Dulwich College. It has remained a relatively small collection of exceptionally high quality, particularly strong in the 17C (Poussin, Claude, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Murillo) and in English portraits of the 18C.
