St Crispin
|
|
Saint whose legend states that he and his brother, Crispinian, were shoemakers, martyred in the 3rd century AD. He is remembered in Britain only because his feast day (Oct. 25,shared with his brother) happened to be the date of the Battle of *Agincourt, giving Shakespeare the opportunity to put into the king's mouth in Henry V the rousing speech about 'we few, we happy few, we band of brothers' who fought together 'upon Saint Crispin's day'.
