William De Morgan
|
|
(1839–1917) Designer of ceramics, and in particular of tiles. His bold designs of plants and animals make his work extremely distinctive. He was a friend of William *Morris, whose ideas he largely shared. Giving up pottery for reasons of ill health, he turned in old age to writing fiction and produced a series of successful novels, beginning with Joseph Vance (1906).
