(1936–68) Scottish racing driver who established a phenomenally successful partnership with *Lotus in the 1960s (he won the *British Grand Prix in a Lotus every year but one between 1962 and 1967). He was world champion in 1963 and 1965. He was killed in a Formula Two race at Hockenheim in Germany, when his car suddenly swerved off the track into trees; the reason was never discovered but is thought to have been a puncture.
