John Cranko
|
|
(1927–73) Choreographer, born in South Africa, who in the 1950s created many works for the Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet (*Pineapple Poll 1951, The Lady and the Fool 1954) and for the Royal Ballet. In 1961 he moved to Stuttgart, where he achieved what became known as the 'Stuttgart Ballet Miracle', building up a company of world class and creating for it a scintillating repertoire. Cranks, which he wrote and directed in London in 1956, was a highly original *revue.
