Bow Group
|
|
Pressure group founded after World War II by young Conservatives, including Geoffrey Howe, with the aim of moving towards a more classless Conservative party, a free market economy and independence for the territories of the British empire. The name derived from the location of the first meeting, at 149 Bow Road in east London. In 1957 the group launched Crossbow, the magazine through which it has chiefly exerted an influence. The *Monday Club was a reaction within the party to the Bow Group's colonial policy.
