Bar
|
|
Collective term for *barristers, who are described as having been called to the Bar. The bar in question is an imaginary line within a court of law, separating the area where the judge sits (the bench) from the body of the court. Only the officers of the court, *QCs (barristers who have been called within the Bar) and those personally involved in the litigation may enter this area. There is another similar bar in each of the Houses of *Parliament, though this is a physical rail; non-members may not go beyond it, and it is here that they stand if they have to address either House.
