(1900–82) Tiny bespectacled entertainer (1.6m/5ft3in), who after years of concert parties and after-dinner entertaining sprang to fame in 1938 in the BBC radio show Band Waggon with Richard Murdoch. Known as 'big-hearted Arthur', he later had a successful career in films and musicals.
