A Christmas Carol
|
|
(1843) A cautionary tale for Christmas, by Charles *Dickens. On Christmas Eve the miserly Scrooge sees visions of Christmasses past, present and future, including a glimpse of his own likely end if he dies despised and hated. He wakes up on Christmas morning a reformed character, and promptly sends a turkey to his underpaid clerk, Bob Cratchit. The great success of the story caused Dickens to publish a Christmas book in several of the following years.
