Catholic Herald

Weekly newspaper founded as the Glasgow Observer in 1885, and adopting its present name when it moved to London in 1888. It takes an independent and often radical line on Roman Catholic issues – attacking, for example, the encyclical of 1968, Humanae Vitae, in which Pope Paul VI reasserted the Church's ban on contraception.
