Cargoes

A much recited poem by *Masefield, published in Ballads and Poems (1910). Its three verses contrast the 'quinquireme of Nineveh', bearing a cargo of ivory and peacocks for Palestine; the 'stately Spanish galleon', bringing back jewels and gold from Latin America; and the 'dirty British coaster' in the Channel, with its load of coal, metal and cheap tin trays.
