Frank Bridge
|
|
(1879–1941) Composer and virtuoso viola player, known in particular for his chamber music – though one of his most popular pieces is a suite for orchestra, The Sea (1912). To his earlier romantic style he added in the 1920s elements of atonality, making him closer to the continental avant-garde than most British composers. *Britten was his pupil from the age of 12.
