Popular term of abuse for the armed auxiliary police force, sent to Ireland in June 1920 during the *Anglo-Irish War. The phrase (the name of a hunt in Munster) was appropriate because the men, rapidly recruited and clothed, had been issued with a mixture of police and army uniforms.
