(Edgar Douglas Adrian, 1889–1977, baron 1955) English physiologist, working mainly at Cambridge, who in 1932 shared a Nobel prize with *Sherrington for their work on nerve cells. Adrian's special field was nerve impulses, in relation to such topics as muscular control, the nature of sensation, and the electrical activity of the brain.
