Berkeley Castle
|
|
(31km/19m SW of Gloucester) Medieval stronghold, unusually intimate in scale and setting, lived in by the Berkeley family since 1153. The interiors date mainly from an extensive rebuilding in 1340–50. By then the darkest deed in the castle's history, the murder of *Edward II, had already taken place.
