Addled Parliament
|
|
Name given to a parliament which sat for two months in the spring of 1614 (5 Apr.–7 June) and hatched nothing. Not a single act was passed, because the Commons would not yield to the wish of *James I to impose taxes, the king rejected any legislation favoured by the Commons and an aristocratic faction, at odds with parliament, had a vested interest in wrecking the session.
