The first full-length novel by George *Eliot, which won her immediate fame for its strong realism. It is the story of the two women in the life of Adam Bede, a village carpenter – the flighty Hetty Sorrel and her cousin Dinah Morris, a Methodist preacher, whom Adam eventually marries.
